Pictured is a hand crafted linen lampshade depicting three curlews and a vibrant band of turquoise silk. This unique item is hand crafted in my Scottish island studio using appliqué, machine embroidery, print and hand dyed silk. Each lampshade is individually made with hand drawn and hand dyed detail. This non mechanised approach means that each lampshade has its own distinctive quality and may differ slightly from the photo. The logs are cut, dried and debarked on our highland croft from mature sycamore; a resource which we sustain with a planting programme of 1600 mixed trees. Each log base is entirely unique with its own natural markings and form. Many have vertical cracks at the ends due to the drying process but they will not cause the logs to split. This shade has a white PVC lining as standard, which allows light through the shade. Backlighting can alter the clarity of the design when the light is on (especially with linen). If you would rather the design look the same whether the light is on or off you can request an opaque lining (in a slightly reflective brushed gold clour).
